The 2.0 system has front left & right channels,  The 2.1 configuration system adds a sub. Also the full 5.1 system has 3 channels for the front (left, center, and right) and 2 channels for the rear (left and right). The 1 configuration has just one subwoofer.

Most people prefer bass frequencies that are below 310HZ. Bass frequencies includes the explosion from music videos and percussions. Frequencies ranging from about 310 HZ to about 12K HZ are the mid range frequencies. The frequency measured include human and instrumental voice.

It is imperative to note that the factors are not just the only way to measure good sound quality, but having knowledge about the factors stated above gives an insight about the process of getting home theaters with good sound quality.
